Where We Are Now
Two years ago, the Gary Library sat quiet on the old Vermont College of Fine Arts campus. Today it's home to sold-out cabarets, weekly dance classes, and neighbors who've found a place to gather. We're building something Central Vermont has needed for a long time: a permanent home for the performing arts.
Since founding in 2023, we've raised $1.09 million toward that vision, almost entirely through the generosity of this community. In 2025, our first full year of operations, we produced 21 events, sold 1,326 tickets, and welcomed 107 students into our new education program, more than half of them young people. In addition to our own programming, we hosted 47 rentals, 42 of them for fellow nonprofits doing their own vital work in Central Vermont.
"I have seen firsthand the positive impact the Montpelier Performing Arts Hub has on young people and families in our community," says Montpelier Mayor Marc Gwinn. "The Hub creates spaces where youth can build confidence, develop creative skills, and form meaningful social connections."
Closing the Gap
In March, Union Mutual committed $50,000 to the Hub, unlocking the second half of a $100,000 gift from the Ellison Foundation. That gift brought us within striking distance of our next goal!
Right now, we're working to retire the remaining balance on our Vermont Community Loan Fund bridge loan. We have $40,000 left to close the gap! Once complete, we officially launch into our capital campaign for the full renovation.
The Road Ahead
Our full capital campaign goal is $6.6 million: enough to complete the Gary Library renovation and fund three years of operations as we grow into our new home. About $5.5 million of that remains to be raised.
We're aiming to have 60% of that committed by November 2026. From there: groundbreaking in Fall 2027, and a grand opening in Fall 2028.
